What do you hate most about traveling?
For some people, it’s sleeping alone, for others, it might be disrupting your usual exercise routine, or not having your usual wardrobe selections available. I think we can all agree that the biggest annoyance is not having the comforts of home along with you.
Is Comfortable Traveling Possible?
At the end of a long day, which body part is most tired? Most of us would say our feet. Either they’ve been supporting our weight all day, or maybe you’ve been sitting in an airplane and they’re sore from not moving.
When you’re home, something can be done about sore feet. Maybe your spouse can give them a nice rubdown, or you probably have a home foot spa to soak in by the fireplace.
But when you’re in a hotel somewhere, what is there to do? Sometimes there’s a jacuzzi or a sauna in the fitness center, but do you really want to go to all that effort? Personally, the hottub or pool always sounds like a great idea before I go, but it’s so much work to go there in reality!
Here’s an awesome hotel room workout routine to solve the exercise problem (no excuses now! Sorry…), but what about relaxing afterwards?
My solution is pack along a foot massager in your suitcase. Check out this portable foot massager review page, and get the one that works for you. They’re small enough to fit in your bag, and well worth bringing!
As a reminder, whenever you go on vacation, make sure you take some shower sandals or warm, comfy slippers with you.
Yes, even if you’re a guy, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear pink bunny slippers, or giant fuzzy animal slippers. What could possibly be more comfortable than lounging back in a soft robe and fuzzy slippers? Just because you’re not in college anymore doesn’t mean they’re inappropriate. You can’t outgrow comfortable!
And of course, traveling solo? Well then who’s going to know?
Other tips for soothing sore feet when you’re traveling:
- Pack an extra pair of comfortable walking shoes. After wearing high heals or stiff dress shoes all day, soreness shouldn’t be surprising!
- Soak your feet in alternating hot and cold water in a bowl (use the hotel ice tub if necessary)
- Do some foot stretches before going to bed.
- Move around! Instead of just sitting for hours on an airplane, get up once an hour and walk up and down the aisle to get some circulation. In a car or plane, also try tracing the alphabet in the air with your feet.
- While soaking up some sun, be sure to slather on some sunscreen on your feet. Nothing’s worse than dress shoes on sunburned skin!

Happy trails as you get away for your dream vacation (or business trip…can’t have everything!)
